Romans 7:14-25

"For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but now the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I do do it, but sin that dwells in me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin."

This is a somewhat confusing passage. I had to read it for worldview, David Quine asked the questions: How many times does the passage have the word " I " in it? What does following " I " cause or bring about? I thought that was really good, seeing that every time " I " try to do something it turns out the wrong way, I do it for the wrong reasons or very bluntly, I sin. Thankfully the last verse in the passage shows that through Jesus Christ we can do the right thing in our minds. This is definitely something I need to be reminded of.

Quote of the post:
"Man's mind is like a store of idolatry and superstition; so much so that if a man believes his own mind it is certain that he will forsake God and forge some idol in his own brain." - John Calvin

I liked it :-) That passage is very confusing but it's also comforting knowing that I am not the only one who struggles with this. Have a marvelous day, Ellie!

Hey, I really enjoyed seeing you at the convention. I'll call you later and perhaps we'll talk more about it. For now though I must do my duty and start studying!
